How it works
Gingerols and shogaols stimulate motility of the gastrointestinal tract, potentially reducing the time acid remains in the stomach.
Fresh ginger root tea is preferable to concentrated supplements. Carbonated ginger ale can worsen reflux. Very high doses of ginger may irritate the stomach.
Limited RCT evidence specifically for GERD. Good evidence for ginger as a prokinetic and anti-nausea agent generally. Community experience drives its use for reflux.
