How it works

Gravity keeps stomach contents below the lower oesophageal sphincter during sleep. Reduces mucosal acid exposure time during the night.

Use bed risers or a wedge under the mattress — not just extra pillows. Pillows flex the waist and can increase intra-abdominal pressure, worsening reflux.

Why strong evidence

Multiple studies show significant reduction in nocturnal acid exposure and symptom frequency with head-of-bed elevation. Endorsed in all major GERD guidelines.

Noticeably less frequent issues after about a month of consistent use. Worth sticking with.

Good results overall. Had to adjust the approach slightly but found what worked for me. Would recommend trying it.

Some improvement but not as dramatic as I hoped. Might need longer to see full benefit. Still continuing.
