How it works

Dehydration reduces blood volume and can cause cerebral vasoconstriction. Restoring fluid and electrolyte balance corrects this rapidly.

Most effective when dehydration is the underlying cause. Add electrolytes (sodium, potassium) if also sweating or in heat.

Why moderate evidence

A 2004 RCT found water ingestion led to significant headache relief within 30 minutes. Effect size was comparable to common analgesics.
