How it works

Increases hydration of stratum corneum, enhances emollient absorption, reduces scratching behaviour, and cools inflamed skin.

Use lukewarm water for the wet layer. Do not leave on more than 8 hours at a time. Increases systemic absorption of any topical corticosteroids applied β€” avoid over large body areas.

Why moderate evidence

Several RCTs show rapid, significant improvement in acute severe eczema with wet wrapping, particularly in children. Faster response than emollients alone.

β€œSome improvement but not as dramatic as I hoped. Might need longer to see full benefit. Still continuing.”
