How it works
Anticholinergic agent that relaxes smooth muscle in the gut wall, reducing spasm and pain without affecting normal bowel motility at therapeutic doses.
Available OTC in most countries. Not for people with glaucoma, enlarged prostate, or bowel obstruction. Minimal systemic absorption β few systemic side effects.
Multiple RCTs demonstrate significant relief of IBS abdominal pain and cramping. Included in NICE guidelines as a first-line antispasmodic for IBS.
