How it works
Vasodilation increases blood flow and oxygen delivery to muscles. Heat inhibits pain signals via gate control theory. Reduces protective muscle spasm.
Avoid in the first 48 hours after acute injury (inflammation phase). Don't apply directly to skin β wrap in cloth to prevent burns.
Cochrane review found continuous low-level heat wrap provides greater pain relief than placebo and than paracetamol for acute low back pain.
